Im currently deciding to purchase my first road bike as I start to descend away from the freeride side of the world. I have the narrowed it down to 2010 Ridley Compact, and a 2012 Trek Madone 4.5. Currently I'm 5"9, 160lbs, aiming for a 54-55cm frame. My only concern about the bikes is which one to get as they both fit into my student budget.
The Ridley was an ex-rental, less than 250km or 155miles ridden, and the guy just wants to clear up space in his bike shop. Offered it to me for 1350$. Went to look at it in person today minor scratches from rocks, nothing horrible.
