Can any CC'ers help indentify the bike pictured circa 1979?
It's a limited view, any guesses?

I'll be super impressed when someone on here does identify it.

Notice my absolute faith in the CC membership with the use of the very positive 'when' and 'does'.

Once a Wheeler

…always a wheeler
Fork crown looks a bit like a Carlton Constellation. Those bonkers brake levers are typical of Peugeot but were used widely. That handlebar stem made of alloy with the angled flat rear face is typical of the French Philippe marque. If that is a pump underslung from the top-tube, it suggests the frame was intended to take a double chainwheel as the arrangement clears the seat tube for the front changer. Seat stays are nicely tapered but the seat bolt looks a bit basic for Carlton. Looks like the tip of a Campag gear lever poking through its split rubber cover. Bog standard 1970s saddle clamp. Diverse origins, I suspect.
