Where are you that the roads are so bad; my 23mm shod viking is still on the roads in Peterborough.

if i remember viking is local to me , imho hes doing the right thing atm as i have not cycled all week for the same reasons.
The main roads are fairly clear but the side roads are now covered in compacted frozen snow that you would need studded tyres for.Took me over an hour to get to work and coming home after nights the roads that were clear had plenty of ice especially around Winshill .If i had the money i would be looking at a bike with clerances for studded tyres so a CX bike would fit the bill although after a bit of thought i remember totalling my road shifter in a fall whereas a flat barred bike tend to have the shifters a bit more inboard so if you fall then at least your not liable to break them.

hi cyberknight, you're right I'm Burton, as much i'd like to have fun on a bike in the snow I havent got the right bike and dont want to risk injury and have to have time off work (or worse still badly damage my bike!)

Me too. I shall be fettling my On-One MTB tomorrow evening and hoping there's fresh snow on Saturday morningThose 2.3" knobblies are so much better than 23mm slicks for some reason?!

Well, I'm chuffed as I managed to fix up* my old MTB and take it out for a ride. Didn't go far but had an absolute blast! Saw a couple of walkers who couldn't believe I was out cycling.
* - I haven't completely fixed it up as the front mech is totally seized. It is currently bathing in GT85.

I just sold mine as i needed the cash (n-1
) and i wish i hadn`t as i am going up the wall after not being on the bike for a week .Had to take the car all week and dont want to as that uses petrol up.

I'm the same. Commuted on Monday, but took the train for the rest of the week. Main purpose of doing the MTB up is so that I can commute next week and beyond if the weather stays bad.

But your from lunnun innit where you do not really get proper snow , good foot in the garden now .Its a bike in snow,bloody wimps.
Indeed. I missed all of December due to falling off on the 1st of December on ice. The resulting knee injury enough to keep me off the bike until I felt it was ok again.
