Bell helmets do tend to go at the retaining system (I had two Sweeps' go this way, and they weren't cheap - it's just degradation of plastic. Any UV exposure ?

I just buy cheap Carnac (Planet X) lids these days. £15. I don't car if they get trashed.

I'm still using my Xmas 2020 Abus Gamechanger.

It barely went outside October 22 to March 25 and is stored out of direct sunlight.

If OP wants a cheap new helmet, check if the Lidl bike gear sale that ended yesterday had helmets like the one in late June, they'll be in baskets now rather than in the current sale area.

This isnt aimed at the OP, who os wise and listens to sage advice.

But it never ceases to amaze me how many wear a lid for safety reasons, then think they know better than the people that made them when it's time to spend money on another. These two attitudes seem completely at odds with one another.

anyway - this helmet has hrdly been worn which is why I had not thought about replacing it

I now also have to wonder how old my main helmet is - that might need replacing !!

In fact - typeing this I remember that I got it after I broke my arm falling off my PowaCycle Salisbury ebike (pre-2016 so had a throttle)

I discovered while I was recovering from breaking my arm that the apparent gentle tap of my head on the ground has seriously dented the polystyrene below the plastic outer
so I got another

a year or so later I sold the PowaCycle and got the Raleigh
which was quite a while before Covid and all that

Funnily enough I have just chanced across this about when to replace a bicycle helmet

suggests that 10 years is OK and it is only the manufacturers that say 5ish

but then - the hospital is full of people who thought they would be OK but listened to the wrong people
so are the cemeteries

But what colour to choose!!!
(not black - and certainly not matt black - might look cool but ....)
