I don't think many people do drop counting anymore. Most infusions are given by pump, although interestingly pumps also deliver surges in some circumstances.

Is you sayin' that I is showing my age again!!!!

Funnily enough we still use drop size when drawing up "point sized" radioactive sources for quality assurance tests. Depending on the concentration we use different size needles to give a drop that delivers the right amount of radioactivity

All I'm saying is, I never did drop counting, though I remember some of the previous intake students keeping a tongue depressor with the drop rates written down in their pen pocket! I started training in 1992, but I think in paeds we started using pumps for all infusions before the adult
nurses did. When I was in hospital myself a couple of years ago all the infusions were delivered by pump, even the hydration.

"A report that the NSW government is considering passing a law that requires cyclists to carry photo ID raises a lot of questions.

Firstly, just what behaviour would such a law be targeting?

Is it to aid law enforcement? If so, it hardly seems necessary. The police have no difficulty fining bike riders, as the recent Operation Pedro demonstrated. They simply stop the lawbreakers and issue them with a ticket.

Is there a problem with people giving false addresses in order to avoid penalties, hence the call for ID?

If that is the case – and it'd be interesting to see the data – shouldn't we require pedestrians to carry identification too, to stop them giving misleading information when caught crossing the road against a red signal?

And what about children and youths on bikes? If the law will only be for adults, what curious change transforms, say, a burly male teenager into someone that needs to carry identification as soon as he reaches the age of majority?

Or, is this the thin end of the wedge for a comprehensive licensing scheme for cyclists in NSW?

A year ago, Roads Minister Duncan Gay told Radio 2UE: "I am increasingly persuaded that we need to look at a licence for cyclists.""

What's the chance of a similar scheme being introduced up here? Its being viewed by many as the first step towards a registration scheme for cyclists.

Thin end of the wedge, you don't think Boris 's cycling infrastructure in London and surrounding area is all heart and concern for the cyclist do you?? There is undoubtedly a hidden agenda, maybe 2,3 or 5 years away but it WILL come.

Are you just trolling? You raised exactly the same drivel a month ago regarding some kite flying proposals in Ireland, and now it's a report of a possible proposal in Oz, apparently.

Most certainly.

But then I've long held a belief that those of us cycling in busy areas such as cities, should hold a specific license to do so. A licence that can be revoked if we choose to break its terms.

I have no problem with this.
Nor do i have a problem with carrying identification or having a reg plate on my bike , I see tons of riders wearing their triathlon reg plates on their seat posts, for months after the season is over.

This isn't the thin end of the wedge for cycling licences, it's the thin end of the wedge for mandatory id cards for everyone.

I've merged this thread with the previous one regarding NSW cycling legislation proposals.
