Sweet! Thanks folks, all great suggestions.

Will brave my poundland on the weekend *sigh* and grab some goodies
I know it may sound stupid, but are there any specific cloths or anything you'd suggest me buying? Currently I have normal dishcloths, but feel they'd get caught in the chain.

Yes, they tend to get caught, hence using a brush.
I just use an old dishcloth to dry the cog/chain off a bit. My bike lives indoors so it dries quickly after a wipe down

Cool, will save the £1 on dishcloths and just wait till I need to ditch it.

Will have a look around in there though, see what I can get and use. Did the same in Tesco but thought against it for buying proper bike cleaning stuff. Wish I hadn't held off now.

Wooden barbeque skewers are great for a big de-crud of cassettes but other than that soap and a hose then mickle every time ^_^
