I do quite fancy a bike messenger bag now though

Are they actually comfy?

I have the North Face messenger bag. I use it to go to school and to go to work and carrying stuff around, like a bike frame and forks.
Yes they are comfy, just dont load them with something hard puching against you.

I was about to ask if that's how it fitted to the bike :blush::biggrin::biggrin: - blonde moment there

Does yours have a rigid back? The ones on wiggle seem to have a solid plastic back so letters and things don't dig in. Can you remember what you paid for your one?

I don't actually carry paper or parcels around with me...just shoes, lunch and things - how well would it carry them over 15 miles?

I've already got a really nice rucksack, just the messenger ones look quite cool!

Mine was £34.99 in the sale at Evans. No hard back on it though.
I have had pump, lock, shorts, t shirt, shoes in it and rode to my GFs thats 15miles there, and 15miles back. No problem.

Is it just a shoulder strap, sort of over one, under the other??

I quite like the idea of being able to put a sheet of A3 advertising in the bag like with this one. It's far too expensive for me, but maybe I could make my money back advertising car insurance offers in it or something .

The Ortleib one is a back pack.
My messenger bag has one main strap and one that goes under neath that to stop the bag from sliding over to one side and round, if you get what i mean?

And most messengers cant climb hills because of the stupid narrow bars they have on.
The hipsters around here cant climb a slope, they call it a hill. They ride a gear thats too big for them, have stupid narrow bars and struggle up the slightist of slopes

I find Lucas Brunelle inspirational there is one hell of a lot of skill involved they dont miss hitting that black cab at 5.20 in London Calling by chance.

Chill a little Macbludgeon, there is no need to advocate violence.

Some of us want to live a little, your a long time looking at the lid.

I don't think you're being fair to MacB, and he wasn't advocating violence.

What irks me about the riding style in these videos is the arrogance of it. The riders assume that their skills will allow them to deal with any eventuality but anyone who's spent any time at all riding in a city ought to know that you have to allow for pure bad luck.

The best skills in the world won't allow you to stop in time if a child steps out right in front of you or a driver does something truly stupid and unpredictable. By riding the way these guys do, the chances of a 'bad luck incident' are greatly increased. Inevitably, if you barrel through enough pedestrian crossings full of people and hop enough pavements, you're going to increase the chances that you run someone down, and when you do, you're the a**hole.

i dont know about those bags. I know a lot of people use them, but i dont know how stable or secure they are on your back, and if they should slip off your sholder or back, then your in a lot of trouble. I prefer a ruck sack. If anyone does use them and knows if they infact good, plesae post.

I think what irked me more were the Dutch/ Scandanavian countries. I've never been there myself but I get the impression generally that drivers there are a lot more observant/ tolerant to cyclists then you get numpties like couriers coming along. I do admire their skill but its stupid to be in the position in the first place. Whilst not wanting to wish bad luck on any body these moves are cool until something goes wrong. Touch wood I've only seen the aftermath of a courier accident once and hopefully I won't see it again.

Very stable and secure, there is a stabilising strap which runs from the main shoulder strap under your arm to the bag which stops it moving about. I have a Crumpler Dhardly XL absolutely brilliant main compartment is cavernous easily takes a suit with minimal folding shoes shirt and tie with plenty of other pockets for tools tubes and anything else you might want to carry. I even use mine as an overnight/weekend bag.

Worth keeping an eye out in TK Maxx for one as they get them occasionally and sell them for about £35 which is far less than you would pay online at a bag shop or direct from manufacturer.

Ah right. They certainly look good, and a lot of people are using them now. Of course a lot of it is fashion and wannabecurriors. Thanks
