It seems the police recommends this method of registering, but they also advise us to: "Mark your frame with your postcode in two separate locations, one of which should be hidden."

What hidden places are there for a barcode? I was thinking of the saddle post (the part that is hidden), and I was wondering if the code will be visible on a dark grey/blackish frame. (The video here shows the marking)

In addition the police organises cycle marking events.

Edit: What do you use? RFID or permanent marking?

The headset cap is a great place. Can remove it without affecting the headset and it's not a likely place I would imagine?

A bike that was stolen had been marked by the police, never heard of it again. I hadn't attached the sticker though. Didn't cost anything, can't see why you wouldn't have it done unless that concerned about bike aesthetics, not that you can see the marking unless you turn the bike upside down

But where do I go to get it marked from the police?

Yes, they offer sessions. Call the local nick or look online

What are people's views on Bike Register ?

http://www.bikeregister.com/

Or any of the alternatives ?

And old friend of mine had a phone call from the police... they'd found his stolen bike and traced it back to him due to it being postcode stamped and registered... thing is, he hadn't even realised his bike had been stolen until the police telephoned. Best bet is register it on a variety of websites and with your local bobbies.
