The report is not detailed, but he's described by the copper as 'prolific'.

Seems likely he got the three years under the 'three strikes' rule which gives a mandatory minimum of three years for anyone convicted of three (or more) domestic burglaries.

That's actually easy enough as long as the post is no more than about 6" long, probably best to lube liberally as well, it takes a while to get comfortable if it's a dry fit.
