I use Tractive

It is a pet tracker that we bought when looking after someones dog.

When we gave the dog back, the tracker was surplus. I was curious to see how good a reception it had and so I put it inside the steel frame of my Brompton and went for a ride. It tracked perfectly.

It tracked from INSIDE the frame???

I would have though the frame would block the signal???

I would have thought so too, but I once had a phone signal when trapped in a lift so I know that radio signals can escape from imperfect Faraday cages!

true
I know that the faraday cage bag I used to keep my car keys "safe" need to be properly folded over or the car still sees it

It is probably due to magic

Faraday bags are hopeless. Even the few good ones are useless if the spare in protected elsewhere in the hoos.

I knew someone once who went camping - as they often did
and there was nowhere in the tent that they could put their car keys where the car remained locked
It was one of the "smart" systems where the car unlocks automatically if it detects the keys nearby

They ended up having to park the car in the car park rather than on their plot with their tent!

I reckon the people who design car systems are either geeks with not idea of real life
or morons who don;t care about normal people

There might not be much difference between the 2
even if they do "earn" billions!

Hello again

Thanks for all the replies.

The solution I have decided on will get around possible drop outs on any additional tracking device. I believe standalone trackers are better at keeping signal than a cell phone so would probably be OK though.

The option I am going with is a simpler probably more reliable one.

I can get an upgrade to my phone to allow it to use Satellite communication when it looses cell coverage. This seems like a good option and is not expensive so I am going to try this.

Thanks again
