Hi there

I’m doing a 4 day tour of Wales in July and I was going to take my Bianchi all road (which I have fitted with mudguards, Schwalbe Marathon Plus 35 tyres and a pannier rack) but I think this may be too heavy.

I was thinking about taking either my Bianchi Intenso Potenza road bike, my BMC teammachine or my Giant TCR advanced road bike - are these bikes suitable to add bikepacking? If so, what are the best bikepacking?

Thanks in advance

I don't think it will be too heavy @Glasgow44 - It will be a little slower, more so up the hills, but that's touring.. Get yourself sat up a little more, have a good look around, stop every now and then and take photos...

when you've done all that, come back here and share your experiences..

Have fun

Not meaning to be a smartass, but surely what you're planning on packing is an influential factor in the choice of bike?
A lighter bike seems logical until it means you don't pack a change of clothes or some rain gear and end up being uncomfortable?
I think glasgow's first step should be to get a heavier bike and chill.
I well remember on one tour having a glorious time and wandering into a bike shop - first thing the chap in the shop said to me was "you need a lighter bike". Didn't buy anything.
(bike is a 90s flat bar hybrid I've tinkered around with - nice Tange steel)

Don't worry about the weight of the bike. I ride a steel framed longtail on tours with Marathon plus tyres and a substantial piece of wood on the back:

It's a bit slow up hills but doesn't get blown about and once it's moving that baby has momentum.

That said, I've also managed to tour on this (the bike, not the horse and carriage):

Which is 35kg empty...

Avoided hills though...

What terrain are you riding on and how much kit are you taking?

Once you sort that out you can start eliminating bikes.

The Bianchi should be fine. I did jogle on a Specialised Tarmac, di2, semi compact ch/set, tubeless tires.seat post bag had a change of cycling clothes tools and food.Bar bag had battery to recharge devices, phone, route , money and nibbles, handlebar bag had light wind/shower proof top and trainers, toiletries were stuffed into the trainers, and all worked well.
