Seems a bit pathetic to me.
If the guy was trying to act the 'big man', check the CCTV if there's any.

Sometime in the next few weeks, he's going to have to fix a puncture before going home.

There was no "bigging up" going on. I think the person at, ahem, "my stand" was a bit clueless about what was going on - maybe too early in their day to be able to deal with such confusing matters.

They probably thought "fancy leaving your lock behind, how absent minded is that??"

Fair enough.
Some commuters can get a bit mind-blown.

I'm going to start a thread about an incident that happened to me.
Watch out for it, you'll definitely have a comment.

We had a similar discussion on a work forum. Nearly everyone agreed with what was said on here. Some people couldn't understand why anyone would leave a lock on the bike stand. I explained that I (and a couple of others) do it to not have to carry the extra weight, but leave it in a place that doesn't stop or even discourage anyone from using that stand. All good and warm and cosy with no-one being upset.

Apart from the one tosspot who deliberatly left his lock in a place to block a stand and thought that that made it HIS stand. And NO-ONE else should use that stand. Ever! Even if there were no other spaces he wanted people to leave bikes in the street instead. Even if he was off sick that day. He thought he was being reasonable. Everyone else thought he was an a**hole.

I used to leave a lock on a bit of pole that could not be used for locking a bike to (stairs in the way) so that I wasn't blocking anyone

now i'm the only person who cycles to where i work and i have to climb through a flower bed and lock up to a tree.

1. Pick up a load of locks of assorted styles

2. Use various tools, bold cutters, angle grinders etc to break every one

3. Leave them at the bike stands

I can more or less guarantee you'll subsequently have all the stands to yourself

loving the fact you leave a lock at the supermarket !

Until some oik superglues itup like they did to the lock I used to leave at work - well, it is still there, but I can't use it anymore, obviously. Wouldn't be someone emplyed there, I work at a hospital, and it will have been some "poor, bored, misunderstood" yoofs who seem to populate areas of the grounds at night.

Last year somebody objected to me leaving my lock in the bike cage at work; to be fair to him he has become a regular commuter (throughout winter too). At the time I couldn't understand what he was getting all het up about though and still don't it not as if the bike cage is busy. The Kyrptonite 'New York' lock and Kyrtoflex cable are a bit heavy to lug them about so I just leave them locked to a pipe that runs through the cage; he doesn't seem to object to that.

I leave a heavy 10lb chain at work, but still carry a New York Forgetityouscum and an Abus Bordo with me as I quite often go to other sites. The Chain is a no-no to transport in a rucksack - I even 'dropped' it off at work in a car before I started there......

No objections to someone parking where I leave my lock, but the stands are never at capacity - We hve 10 stands / 20 spaces, very rare are the 10 taken up.
