He probably was just confused.

We have eight cycle stands in our car park. I never see another bike in them except my own but there is a lock attached to every stand - in some cases there are two of them.

When I first started to cycle in I used to use the first stand because there was no lock on it. Then at the beginning of this summer somebody started to use "my" stand - the first stand - and they put their lock on there.

They gave up after the first couple of raining days (wuss) and the bike never appeared again.

The lock, however, stayed on "my" stand.

This irritated me no end (I know there is no reasonable reason for this) and I used to use another stand.

Eventually though I just parked my bike back on "my" stand over their lock.

To make matters a little more complicated - I NEVER use a lock at work.

I just park and go! (We are blessed with security and they comment enough on my arse in tight tights that I think it is only fair they keep an eye on my bike!!!!)

loving the fact you leave a lock at the supermarket !

+1, I thought that was exellent too...and the idea of a growing family of locks scattered around the country appeals to me no end.

You say "oh sorry mate" & let them get the lock. Personally I don't bother with a lock for my bike at work. But that's cause it goes in the alarmed air handling & building thermal control room (one perk of having the master key & alarm codes)

Is it wrong that I put my lock back around, ahem, "my stand" this evening when I left work?
It depends, if there are 3 - 20 spaces then it may be frowned apon by some to leave your lock there. if there are more spaces i see no issue.

We have over 200 spaces at work, so no biggie in my situation
