Bikes of the late 80s were far superior to the rubbish about today...

I remember that bikes from this era (even entry level budget racers) were much much faster up hills and could go for considerably longer distances before tiring the rider out. It seems that a lot of the so called progress we have made has just made bikes slower, more sluggish and more tiring.

It's not just the older bikes that were better, I have found that my fifteen year old bike is considerably slower now than it was when I got it, despite having been upgraded to lighter wheels and better gearing.

And clothing. They must make clothing smaller today because the exact same sizes I used to but twenty years ago don't fit now. I'm still the same person so it's got to be the clothes manufacturers scrimping on material to make it go further.

I have noticed that my 1985 Dawes galaxy is much slower than it used to be, Especially up hills.
