We had a green one in the garden last week. their call is known as a yaffle down here - is that a local or national word?
they are known as yaffles in certain parts of the country. i like that name, much better than green woodpecker.
Or, 'you know, the one on the cider bottles.'.

Can't be Magners - that's the one with the black and white bird on the front...
Reading that it says their tongues are at least three times the length of their bill .

We use the phrase "mixed race" now.
