Birmingham Commuter Cycling Study

Hello everyone, Im a student at the University of Birmingham currently doing my dissertation on Commuter Cycling within the city of Birmingham, exploring the experience of cycling within the city and how cycling infrastructure affects this experience.

Currently Im looking for some volunteers to participate in a half hour interview and, if they can, also take part in a filmed ride using a helmet mounted camera.

Anyone who would like to volunteer to take part will need to be free at some point in September - October and commute to work within the city centre at least once a week. Volunteers will also be entered into a prize draw to win a £20 voucher for there favourite bike shop (prize will be drawn in November).

Yep, he is actually! Do you go to/work at the university?

How are you defining "city centre?"


Im defining the city centre very loosely actually, its around a 3 mile radius around the Town Hall area, but Ill basically take most places, so if you post or email the area you work ill have a look and see if its within a workable area.

I've just finished my postgraduate dissertation and am hanging around Selly Oak for another month. I have his RG site bookmarked after I got an email on the BUBUG mailing list earlier this year.

Unfortunately no commute for me, but I usually ride into the centre once a week.

I don't go into the centre any more since a change of office.

The Missus does though so get in touch if you don't get enough people. (Or I know another 3 blokes who do).

I don't commute into Brum centre, but I cycle through regularly.

I commute from Solihull to Gaydon.

I did commute from Castle Bromwich to Hockley / Lozells ( Lucas ).

I regularly do a lap of the No. 11 route to keep my 'hand in' the traffic.

When riding to Fred Williams in Wolverhampton, I detour round the city centre using Belgrave Middleway, Five Ways Edgbaston and along Icknield Port Rd.

Another jolly is a triangular route via Lickey and Barr Beacon, which means riding through the city centre.

I've just started commuting from Sutton Coldfield to Yardley. PM me if you still need more people. Not quite city centre but definately skirts around it.
