To avoid Mucklows Hill if going towards Brierley/Merry hill I like going down Long Lane towards Blackheath but cut out Blackheath town by taking a left onto Springfield Road and through to Beeches road. Then it's down the longer, less steep alternative to Waterfall Lane (Perry Park Road - easily the most cycle friendly way of getting back up the hill towards Brum). It's a really nice quiet route, even in rush hour. Still need to do Quarry Bonk though!

Hmm, I'll have a look at that route - it sounds interesting.

I get to do QB whether I go on the train or the whole way. I set myself a target of getting from a sign at the bottom of QB to a sign at the top within 2 mins. Which isn't quick, but enough to knacker me out.

Personally I find Station Road/Gorsty Hill a bit easier for my weak legs!! By the way for those in the area, there is a small path through the closed bridge at Beauty Bank (closed to traffic due to Gas main works and bridge repairs)

I'm at the wrong end to go that way although I could go down Haden Hill Road past the Leisure centre

My Garmin doesn't know the cycle routes, so I take the main carriageway, even Queensway tunnel under St Chads - stand up, push hard and go with it !!!

Aw. Now you've gone and spoiled it.

Big boys (Ooooer!) made me do it; it was the big boys.

The thread just caught me off guard...it's as though we (cyclists in Brum) really exist.

Ironically a lot of the posts aren't to do with Cycling in Birmingham either !
Quarry Bank, Bierley Hill and Halesowen are not actually classed as Birmingham !

Do you mean the long Queensway tunnel? !

I used to live in Brum and did some air quality surveys down there, but even if the air wasn't foul I'd have never had the nerve to cycle through it!

Years ago as a teenager I used to do the Queensway tunnel on my bike most weekends and never really thought anything of it.
Now, I'd probably hesitate to go through it.

Did anyone read the Letter page in Fridays Evening Mail ?

One flabbergasted gent was riled at Cyclists on the A38 Bristol Road and was appalled that he had to pull out to overtake them and thus doing so encroached onto the 2nd lane on the dual carriageway.

At least the moaning old duffer does do the 'right' thing and give plenty of room overtaking.
Rather than 'teach' these bloody cyclists a lesson and go past with 'inches' to spare.
I'm sure he'll sleep much better now having got that huge burden off his chest.

Hehe !

I know where he is on about - The Selly Oak to Bham bit of the road where there is a Dual Carriageway but it was designed when cars were slimmer.

Anyhows won't be long till the new roads done and with it the new cycle bits !
