How far can I go?

In about a month's time, I'll be purchasing a new cycle. While I am pretty much set on a Ribble Sportive Racing, I'm having a look at other manufacturers' offerings. I took a look at the Canyon website just to have a look at what they have, and their women's endurance CF 7, comes in at a reasonable price for a carbon frame with a full 105 groupset and mavic aksium wheelset. Brilliant, i thought, as Canyon's are nice looking cycles, and a few people in my club seem to have them and rate them. Except, their XS small frame is suited to someone 5'5"-5'8". Do they cater to giant females? It's not like I'm insanely short (5'3"ish). So Canyon will not be getting my business.

You are only 2 inches shorter. Can you not solve the problem by buying a slightly shorter stem and putting the saddle a little forward.

Whats the Top tube length and how does it compare to another brands length? An XS frame to me would be for someone your height. I take a small or medium and I am only 5ft 7.

can't you try someone elses for size. The size is just an indicator, and as bikingdad90 says you can change a lot to tweak the position

Just compared a Canyon bike to to a Small Planet X women's bike and the TTT is identical. The seatpost height is about 2cm longer so I wouldn't be too worried as the seatpost should take up the slack.

Why not go to a bike shop and ask to sit astride one of their bike-fit machines?

They have setting for just about any bike on the planet!

I did this when looking at a Genesis CdF and ended up buying a Canyon Inflite8 XS size, and I'm 5'4" (and a bit)

It's true that the Canyon sizing designations do seem to go large - I'm six foot and ride a Medium - but I'd be surprised if their XS has such a limited size range.

Try asking the question using Chat facility on their site. In my experience they're pretty responsive. If you do decide to go for a Canyon then check delivery times. There was a period a few years ago when they royally piddled people around with availability and lead times although I haven't heard any complaints recently.

Surely a test ride would reveal all this?

Oh, wait...
