Yep he did say that, he and anyone else who thinks that can do one, it's covered in dog shoite and slimey leaf litter / sharps, just because there is a cycle path, doesn't mean anyone 'has' to use it. I've never used it, I never will.

Actually it can be quite fun, as there are traffic lights at each end of that road and you can often catch up with the abuser/punishment passer in the traffic queue.

I understand that opinions differ (for valid reasons) as to whether it's a good idea, but given the chance I will confront anyone who has been abusive to me or deliberately endangered me because I'm riding a bicycle.
If the driver in the OP had acted in this way under any other circumstances, in a pub or workplace for instance the police would pursue him for threatening behaviour. Based on my experience, because it's a cyclist v motorist thing they wouldn't give a toss.

NOT AT ALL, but as I ride that road 5-6 times a week it is not that wide and most cars are doing well over 50 mph I keep well away on the cycle path, at my age I don't want aggravation from some dumb arse in a car

There's another route where I frequently get some arse giving me grief. The bit of Otterbourne hill, coming up from Kiln lane. I had a van driver giving me loads of grief (although to be fair he didn't swear and threaten me) he seemed to be very adamant that cyclists have to use the cycle path. I disagreed. A 14 percent gradient is bad enough, having to avoid broken glass and faeces at the same time, is very bad.

Guy does sounds like a tool but it does seem like there's just some cluster of people who really hate cyclists. I was cycling past London Bridge when my chain fell off so I took it to the pavement to fix it, just next to some road workmen doing some digging. I was nowhere near them, nor interacting with them, when two came over and asked me something mumbling and smiling. I assumed he'd asked if I needed help, I replied: "No thanks, I'm OK, I can fix this then my office is only over there."
He said "No I asked if you wanted a hammer."
"A hammer?" I said, confused.
"Yes, a hammer, so you can smash your bike up".
I nervously laughed and wheeled my bike away. But in my head I was thinking '...what a dickhead'

I use that road also and I use the cycle path, it's part of my round trip when I'm over at Fair Oak

Which is a bit of a freaky coincidence, as my mum lives in Fair Oak, and that's part of the route I use to get there
