BKool routes and (in)accurate gradients

I just loaded my first map of a route I want to ride, and having ridden it on the Bkool trainer some of the gradients are just so far out of what they should be it has been a painful ride painful to say the least.

I plotted the route using map my ride and saving it to Bkool as a GPX file. Over 24km there are about 50 waypoints. Is the problem that there are too many or too few? Is map my ride a poor tool to use for this (and should I use something else)?

Once I can get this sorted out I will have to get some advice re videoing and overlaying the gpx and video files!

Any help will be really useful!

In the past when i have tried this i found gradients ignored tunnels and bridges so the route would pass through a tunnel of 6% for eg but the trainer would follow the mountainside contours leading to some interesting elevations.

Good thinking, and although there are no tunnels on the route it is possibly taking an erroneous contour spot height from a position near the road rather than the road itself.

Does anyone know of a mapping system that may work better?
