Its been a cracking last few months cycling, my fitness is at a all new high and really enjoying two or three 50plus rides a week.
Then in the last few weeks I've got 5 p*nctures with the dam hedges being cut. I ride on Gatorskins, but they haven't really helped, are Schwalbe marathon plus as good as they say?

Be careful out there folk, those leaves are causing trouble :-)

Marathon plus are very good tyres for hard wearing puncture resistance however, whilst they roll well, they are quite a heavy tyre. I've been running these for a few years now on my cross bike which becomes my main bike during winter and so far not had one p*>#=+re. I also use Fenwick's no-tube sealer in the inner tubes. Its not cheap but much better than slime. I know quite a few riders who also swear by this stuff and even a local racing club use it on all their bikes.

Had both gators and marathon plus and the marathon puncture protection is far superior .

I once had an immediate deflation from thorn clippings covering the road due to hedge cutting while on a training ride on my road bike. The farmer doing the pruning was only a short way up the road in his tractor so I carried my bike over over all the cuttings and showed him what had happened. He was very apologetic offering to give me a lift home. He also offered me an apple and a dead pheasant that was in the back of his truck that he'd scooped up off the road earlier that morning.

I had my third puncture in 4 years this morning and it was truly a blessing in disguise.

I bought a mini pump ( a very cheap one) a month or so ago, and so this morning had the chance to use it, only to find it would not clamp onto the valve and so was totally useless.
The lucky part was I got the puncture 200m away for a lad I know who has a nice track pump in his garage, so off I went to knock him up out of bed (it was only 8am has it happens) , change inner tube in a nice dry garage and throw one cheap rubbish pump at the bin.

I've also used both. Got a puncture on a marathon plus tyre after about 1000 miles. The Gators have lasted over 3000 miles without a puncture.... a lot of it is just pure luck!

I definitely prefer the ride on the gators, and they weigh less than half the M+

Its a big problem, farmers are supposed to clear up the debris from their hedge cutting, the reality is they never do

+1!

About half a mile of hedge on my main route into town was cut at the weekend. Have they cleared it? Have they heck!:headshake: Half a mile of hawthorns to negotiate. Lovely.

Fortunately, the Conti TourRides have done a good job so far.

(A complaint has gone in to the local council. Awaiting a response at the time of writing.)
