Without wishing to put a downer, on this tasty thread, the usual test for Bowel Cancer is checking for blood in stool specimens
However, in Bury, they can't test this way, as the local population eat too much Black Pudding for it to be considered a reliable test

Sounds great!

It's not a full English if it doesn't include a generous serving of black pudding.
And for a taste sensation, the butchers do a pork and black pudding pie. Truly the food of the gods. :notworthy:

Which butchers is that? Do they make their own pies or do they buy them in?

I've sampled pork and black pudding pies from Clapham, Bedale and Boroughbridge - all in North yorkshire.

Setchfields (Cross Gates is my local shop, but they have a branch at Oakwood) often have them, although not always. The Yorkshire Pork Pie shop in Leeds market sold them too, but I think they might have closed now?
And Grosvenors in the Borough Market, Halifax also stock them.
I'm guessing they're bought in, but honestly don't know.

Quite a few butchers buy their pies in. I know that Voakes of Whixley and Wilsons supply other shops.

I always ask about the provenance of the pies when I buy them. I was in awe of the ones sold in Sissons of Pocklington but eventually found out that they sourced them from Mounfield's of Bubwith. My friends in Pocklington rated the 'Sissons' pies above the Mounfield pies and had difficulty accepting that they were one and the same.

Mounfield's gala pies are top notch as several FNRttC riders will testify.

Lifelong fan of black pudding here. I reckoned it was a superfood before the Grauniad did. I got introduced to white pudding on a visit to Ireland recently. That's nice too. But not as nice as black.

Haighs of Bolster Moor do a pork and black pudding pie. I thought I'd given you one, as a comparison with the fidget, but maybe not. Next time we hit he Kashmir I'll make sure you get to try one.

Pubs round here often used to pop a plate of raw black pudding slices and some tripe on the bar towards closing time. I love it raw with a pint, but you can forget the tripe thanks.

Fantastic with Scallops, not that I'm trying to outdo @The Velvet Curtain on food ponciness or anything (you can swap the Kale for Savoy Cabbage if you like)

EDIT- I actually use Scallions (spring onions to the scruffier members) in the Colcannon. :becool:
Very nice, I tend to do scallops and black pudding as a starter, garnished with rocket and a mustard vinigarette. The fishmonger in Wigston do some superb, huge hand dived scallops. I've not been able to find any great locally made black pudding though. Woodhouse Farm do one that is good on flavour but they cube the fat too large and you can end up chewing on a dice of it, not nice.
