I wouldn't say they were bog standard (thankfully) as this sort of pass is not all that common (for me at least)... just plain inconsiderate and pointless as there were 2 lanes which he/she could have used.Matthames said:1) Your bog standard driver who thinks a driving plan is what junction they are going to take next. An advanced driver would do as the green car did and allow the cyclist space in case of emergency.
I agree - I knew they were planning on coming onto my side of the road but assumed/hoped that with me approaching at about 20 odd mph they'd have waited... either that or that they were simply parking up on my side of the road and I could continue past them (probably muttering about them not waitingMatthames said:2) Do what that car driver did in a driving test and it will most certainly be a fail. But riding you must always be mindful that there are drivers who really shouldn't be there or just having a bad day. Coming into that situation I would start to slow down and have the brakes covered. I have seen it happen so many times that I can spot the situation happening a mile off.
As I said in the vid, I wasn't overly concerned by this guy - the overtake was fine (albeit quite fast - I was going at a reasonable lick when he blazed past) but it's round a bend where there are traffic lights (of course I'm assuming the driver is familiar with the road or he's a bit of an idiot for going so fast if he didn't!) and as there had clearly been traffic coming along towards us when he overtook (thus signifying that the lights were probably on green, and therefore might plausibly be changing very soon) it just seemed rather a daft and short-sighted move.Matthames said:3) WVM in a hurry. If a light has been green for some time then the chances are in the next few seconds it is going to turn to red. I could see what was going to happen in the next 15 seconds on the approach to the junction. It was poor planning on the part of the driver, would of probably had a collision if the driver came across the car in clip number 2.
Agreed - but for drivers on the phone... that's not a mistake, it's arrogance and a blatant disregard for the law because they just assume/hope they won't get caught.Virtual DBP said:<<I would love it if the Police started a campaign to ask for assistance in helping them enforce the law on the road....>>
i'd hate that. the last thing i want is people filming each other and handing clips into the police. we all make mistakes at some point and there's enough animosity on the roads without promoting it further by one group of road users filming and clyping on everyone else

I wonder if more drivers were aware that cyclists are increasingly filming as they go along, whether it might reduce their temptation for poor/ dangerous driving?
