I am off on me sponsored cycle to Paris tomorrow and I am pretty much hyperventilating with nerves now!

I am scared that I won't make it/bike will fall part/I will fall apart/I forget something vital blah blah blah, just wondering if anyone had any tips for relaxing (other than drink or drugs!)

Many thanks

Nerves are natural, you will be absolutely fine and have a great time.

Good luck and look forward to the report when you get back !

Just check that you have everything you need prepared and ready to go. There's no particular reason why the bike should suddenly fail. There's no particular reason why you should fail. There's no need for worrying about things outside your immediate control, so chill and do something gentle but diverting. See some buddies, read a book, take a walk, visit a museum.

Oh, and good luck!

You should be running around in a blind panic, cursing a swearing at every little niggle, chewing your finger nails off that you've forgotten something, onto your 30th cup of coffee / tea and you've only been awake for 2 hours, scared in case your ass looks big in this!, .. OH! wait! that's now, but you'll be fine on the run to Paris, so don't worry about it

Enjoy and have fun and we need a full report upon your return  (I'd be more worried about the report than anything else)

Two hours, I wish! Been up since five as I started having palpitations in bed.... grrrr!

I have checked my passport about 48 times, I have emptied and repacked my bag more times than I care to remember and I am woried that I will be arrested for carrying a screwdriver...

Stick a comedy film / program in the DVD and have a good laugh and relax, failing that, go window shopping, that always works

Sound's like you won't make it. Have you done enough training and when did you have your bike serviced last?

Did you know 10% of the people who do these charity rides are never seen again?

So what if you fail or the bike fails and you don't make it? You won't be the first or the last that that's happened to. Relax, chill out, let what will be be and enjoy the experience. The only thing I can say with hindsight is the failures make far better dinner party stories than the successes and they tend to become the things that you remember and come to look back on with amusement, not shame.

Please let me know how this goes. I'm thinking of doing a Paris to Doncaster ride for charity next year (Paris office to Doncaster office of work). I can plan the UK side of things but I have no idea of the challenges on the other side of the channel. The experiences of someone who's already done it would be invaluable.
