Blood donation

I lost count of the transfusions I had last year. It's very hard to convey the overwhelming sense of gratitude that I felt, that complete strangers would give up their time and the contents of their arms so generously. Shamefully it's not something I've ever done because I'm so afraid of needles. And ironic because whilst I was in hospital I became an actual human pincushion.

Thank you.

I gave blood for the first time about 13 years ago. I tried to book a 2nd appointment but they never got back to me. I tried again but it was such a hassle that I gave up. Sorry

I gave blood this week. 40 pints in 40 years. First donated when I was 18. The night before I had watched a Hammer House of Horror film in which a victim was drained of her blood for a satanic rite. Not a great film, but it did have a nude scene with Natassja Kinski.

Edit: there was a potentially embarrassing bit. In the questionnaire I left a box unticked, because I thought it only applied if the answer to the previous question was yes. However, I hadn't had anal sex with anyone so it was alright.

My wife and myself gave regularly years ago may have got to 18 pints between us but my wife stopped when they stopped the numbing jab and struggled with it...I kinda fell out the habit soon after, i found it harder and more uncomfortable due to no local jab.
Whether it's psychological I don't know..

I used to donate for many years
I was never that bothered by the jab
but my friend found it painful even without the numbing jab first - she really didn;t like it
but carried on because she had needed atransfusion herself a couple of time and her parents had as well
so she did it anyway

but there is a limit and that is down to the individual - I know she stopped after a while because it got too much

personally I stopped when it became more difficult where I worked

I did try to start again but could never get an appointment locally - which is weird
and then when I did they turned me away due to iron level (which started a whole who saga that is still going on)

worth doing and I would if I still could
