Blood donation

I used to, especially when I was working. They also used to visit my village regularly but that's stopped even though the village is now about 3 times the size (mostly due to an influx of younger adults).

Despite me living less than 2 miles from their national head office, my 'local' donation centre is now 10 miles away where the parking is £stupid per hour, so I never seem to get around to it.

Well done and thanks as I have been a recipient in the past.

I get a text say say where it went, hospital etc, but obviously not the person. I'm A+ so, who knows!

I used to give blood. However, they always seemed to have problems getting the needle in. Blamed me for being dehydrated (I wasn’t). Or blamed me for doing something wrong, whether that was opening and closing hand or doing something else another had asked me to do. You were always made to feel you were doing something wrong. Well I do not need that, and have stopped. Think I was up to about 30 odd donations.

Yep, unfortunately that is the team who visit our area.

At one of our local centres where it's pay and display they send out a "permit" for free parking. Perhaps this is just a local arrangement with the council, rather than a national one

Actually, I have given plenty of blood over the years as there always seems to be someone in a nearby lab who really needs it!
I am not sure that a few vials will be much use though. 😆

They were always a bit sniffy about me riding straight afterwards; maybe the advice has changed.

The advice is still similar, ie; no over exertion etc, but as I've seen pretty much the same team for years, they know me by now and aren't worried.
I do rest for slightly longer than necessary and eat more free biscuits and pick the flattest route. It's usually under 5 miles home wherever I choose donate in Hamtun.

I wasn't aware that was a thing. Donating your body, yes, but your blood specifically?

Having Leukaemia (I'm in Cytogenetic Remission), that might be an option I'd pursue and I have been something of a 'Human Guinea Pig' for years anyway, so thanks!

Having brain damage as well, I have vaguely thought about donating my brain before also.

I have a donor card too and my family know of my wishes after death, so it might be that there is bugger all left of me to bury when the time comes! 😆

I might even donate my body to medical science or as a cadaver for medical students. We'll see.

I am more than happy to help others long after I'm gone.
