So sick of it, I've been getting at least one a week, sometimes up to 3. This week I splashed out on some Armadillos, thinking these would help the cause. Not really, this morning I had my second puncture with these new "proven puncture resistance" tyres.

I've been moaning about at it work and one colleague said he hadn't had a puncture this year. Surely that's not just luck.

What the hell am I doing wrong? I try to avoid the general crap on the side of the road and pump them up to the maximum pressure the tyres indicate.

In the summer its just a PITA, but when its cold and wet it really makes you think about getting the train to work.

If you ride out from the kerb, and you keep the tyres inflated well, then it could be that you're installing the tubes incorrectly.

Are the punctures at the side of the tubes? If so, you could be trapping the tube in-between the tyre and the rim - this causes pinch punctures.

The Armadillos are pretty decent for protection.

No, always close to the centre of the tyre. They are 32mm tyres so its not so hard to get the tubes in as a skinny 23 or 25mm tyre.

Check that your rim tape is covering the spoke holes adequately. Check your rim for sharp edges. Regularly check your tyres for flints and bits of glass and remove them if found. Wet weather makes it easier for glass to work its way into a tyre. The water acts as a lubricant.

The Armadillos should work really well.

I use Panaracer Pasela Tourguard tyres and have had a couple of punctures in the past three years. I'd expect similar performance from the Armadillos.

Aye - could be a recalcitrant spoke. Also check rim tape to make sure it cover spoke nipples fully.

I'll check these things when I change the tube this evening, there was just enough air in the tyre to get me to work.

Thanks

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Check any cuts in the tyre for any debris that has got into it , i had a flat the other day and found a piece of glass deep inside the cut that looks liek it had worked it way in.
I do normally check my tyres for this but its been that hectic at home that the normal routine had gone out the window.

Surprised at this, I rode all through summer on 32 armadillos on a canal that runs through some of Manchester shittiest areas(there's one or two to choose from) and didnt have one puncture.

I cant offer anything other that check your rim and nipple ends

I always take my tyres off every week if there has been any rain, I wash the tyres and inners, and then check them very carefully, and remove any debris.

This week has been dreadful for the rain, and luckily I was spared the puncture fairy, but on tyre inspection this arvo, there was a thorn straight through the tyre wall, but it had not punctured the inner, I was shocked the tyre had stayed inflated.

So although its been a tough week, someone up there liked me this week !

Ultremo's are race tyres like Conti GP4000 and Michelin Pro Race - Shouldn't puncture like that, but commuting tyres they are not.
