Well I took these photos at dusk but the wind was picking up and getting colder so sorry they aren't great:

First with flash ... but then you don't really see how it bounces off the rack. (Should of had the superflash on the bike at the same time for a comparison shot).

I checked out one of these last night and it's not good from the side. Def not a good as a Blackburn 4.0 or Cateye TL LD 1100. Good from the rear though.

OK I'm now less worried by the side view... took it for its first night ride proper and noticed I could tell whether the light was on or not by looking at the handlebars:

There even appears to be a red-ish glow on my leg!

It's amazingly bright, isn't it? I can see whether mine's on by the red reflection in signs and numberplates far behind me, LOL!

Side visibility is pretty good too, the clear ring gives out quite a lot of light. Clearly nothing like the red lazer of death behind though, but still very visible.

I've just had delivered a BLT fantom xr9 as the Blackburn mars 4.0 that I did have conked out at only 3 months old.
I haven't tried it yet but I have to say the mount for the BLT looks fine, very similar (adn same design) to the blackburn's one..
I always mount rear lights on the right hand seat stay, and never had a problem with this, works fine even on my steel bike with a fat rubber shim in there to keep it nice and tight. Can't see that i'm going to have a problem with mounting the BLT in this way, i'm also going to order an extra mount for my other bike as you apparently can do through a blt distributor (windwave).

Another XR9 user here. It's a bugger to mount because it either wants to point up or right down. I ended up putting it on the seat-stay where the angle of the tubing compensated for the angle of the light. Don't point it up though. It really is a mighty beam ov deth and I wouldn't want it in my eyes if I was sat behind. It's much sharper and more direct than a car rear light. Worth bearing in mind...

but you can rotate the slide thing that it clips on to when you loosen the nut
Yes, I know, but the notches on the two halves of the bracket are quite large and don't give a lot of adjustment. When I tried to fit it in the usual sort of place (ie the seatpost) it was angled too far down or too far up.

ok you were right. the mounting's a bag of shoot. it's too unadjustable and made for too fat tubes to go on the seat stay.
BUT: i have had an idea how i can securely mount it: if you dismantle the mounting, you're left with the bit that the light clips onto with a bolt through one end. could you not, just drill a hole in the top of the mudguard, then hacksaw the bolt down and put it through the hole in the guard and screw the nut thing on the other side? I'm planning to have a go at doing that.... to be honest it looks like the only possibility.

If you do... post the photos of it... and let us know how it stands up over time...

I've not got mine tighten up far enough ... so its slightly too adjustable...
