You think calling a child a "bastard" because his parents aren't married isn't abuse?

I mean, say your mum was feeling off sex but your dad promised her a night out.

That wouldn't make your mum a whore, would it?

So why do you abuse children?

Are you calling my mum a whore?
You think calling peoples mums a whore is funny do you, and something to do?

Anyway, back on topic...

That cyclist was an idiot (the one coming down the hill and at high speed).

This is a very similar situation to some turns that are in the Clyde tunnel (worse as it is an enclosed space). It is supposed to be one way (two tunnels) but cyclists do use the incorrect tunnels out of lazyness. It will result in a nasty accident one day.

Anyone else think that this might be an example of the insidious danger of commuter racing? I'm betting the 2nd bloke was trying to catch the first and therefore was oblivious to the danger of the situation.

I actually think this is more indicative of the problem with shared use paths rather than apportioning blame to any individual. Specifically badly thought-out shared use paths, but few I've seen are particularly well thought out.

Hey that target fixation stuff is an interesting notion...
I reckon i've had that before...
Might read up on that - never too late to learn.

oh, and Lech - keep a lid on it please, your tone is very accusatory and grating.

Rook cyclist coming the other way is at fault. Ped has every right to stand where they are standing.

All said and done though, this is another reason why you should ride on the road.

I don't think it's legal to cycle on the main carriageways of the Forth Road Bridge. It certainly wouldn't be safe - cross winds, frequent large expansion joints, narrow lanes, no hard shoulder, 60,000 motor vehicles per day...

No, it's a technical term for the child of unmarried parents.... I was born a bastard, as was my nephew.
