Here's a review on YouTube from the states, but you should be able to get something here

You could also consider a single speed like this if you like the simplicity: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/charge/plug-2-2014-singlespeed-road-bike-ec053633

Yeah I was considering a single speed like the one you've linked to and I also have my eye on this http://www.bricklanebikes.co.uk/6ku-complete-bike-nebula?productId=1424.

The problem is I ride like I'm 15 again. I can't help it. I go on dirt tracks, through fields, I mount pavements (only where it's legal to do so) but they are often very bumpy and not suitable for road bikes. I need something that can withstand the way that I cycle. That's why I thought I might see if there is such a thing as a BMX for adults or something similar.

I'd pay up to 1k for the right bike. My preference is a single speed as I like to be able to keep maintenance to a minimum although this does somewhat limit my options.

Isn't the point of BMXs that they are silly small and you stand all the time? Charge plug is quite chunky. Or get a frame and build your own?

Is there such a thing? If so, are they freewheel (I like to coast)? And where can I get one?

Yes there called mountain bikes and available in single speed & various sizes.

Again  You mean that you grew up and then grew down again. Man, what a skill that is to have.
I for one, never grew up and still charge about like a loon - I just have more expensive toys than I did at 15 (which was a Puch Pacemaker and a rather nice skateboard for the record)

+1 on the CX. I'd have one in a heartbeat if I could afford one.

Haha yeah I see what you're saying. Perhaps a mountain bike is what I meant.

Anyone got any experience on Cannondale bikes? The above bike is a single speed mountain bike with no suspension. Is it still going to be able to take abuse without suspension?

I have a Cannondale MTB its got front suspension & gears, but has had plenty of abuse and still rides well.

If you want manoeuvrability and quick handling, you would be better off looking for a 26" wheel mountain bike, not sure who sells a 26" hardtails anymore but there should be plenty of second hand ones about.

Looks good, should suit you well for what want it for. You really don't need the suspension, it makes little difference to comfort but adds a lot of weight. If you're not going to be climbing too many hills go for it! It'll be able to take plenty of abuse don't worry.
