hi.i am a cyclist doing approx 200 miles per week,i currently have a giant defy 2 road bike which i love.only problem i find is when i go out with other cyclists of similar ability with better bikes (carbon framed) they leave me standing....
i am considering buying the Boardman Pro Carbon which is on offer at £!600 and has a good spec as well as being light....
has anyone got any experience with these bikes and would you recommend them...thanks robbie

How have you established that these 'other cyclists' are of similar ability? Is it possible that they might simply be fitter than you are..?

It's not the bikes, it's YOU! You need to train more!

By all means buy a new bike (if you want one and will enjoy it for what it is), but please amend your expectations else I suspect you will be very dissapointed when you still get dropped!

i know theyre of similar ability as weve cycled together with similar bikes, just seems that when they go for carbon bikes it just gives the edge,i can keep up but have to work a bit harder to do so.

earlier, you said they 'leave you standing' and now you say you 'can keep up' - which is it..? Either way, the answer is fitness-related.

Agreed. It's not the bike....Carbon bikes are not the be all and end all when it comes to speed. You have to look at your own fitness.

My Defy 2 & I left a Boardman Carbon jobbie standing last night as we rode at a reasonable lick towards Little Melton. We said 'good evening' to the chap as we flew past him. OH was on his Carerra Vanquish, right on my wheel.
Its a fitness thing, not a bike thing. The Defy 2 is a great bike. Obviously, if you just want a nice new carbon bike then go for it but I feel that you might have to train harder if you want to not be left standing by your pals.
I did find that when I went from my old bike to my Defy, I did start to train more effectively and started to go a lot faster though.

Can you not have both?

If its progression that you are after, I should think that the Boardman is the next step up, bike wise, than the Defy 2. If I could afford one, I would definitely consider one. However, I have been doing little upgrades to the Defy that have made a difference i.e. New Wheels etc.

I think you're missing the point - your original question related to a fitness issue, for which a change of bike will have no impact. The Boardmans are good bikes - lots of people will probably confirm that - but then again, so is the Giant you already have. Get one if you want - but the same people that currently 'leave you standing' will still be doing that, regardless of whatever bike you are on.
