Do i get the distinct feeling that Boardmans are either Not Liked or Looked down on ??

I have now managed to get the price of the Boardman for £900 which i think is pretty good ?

Nothing wrong with Boardmans imho apart from Halfords sell them.

Great bikes often let down by poor and shoddy builds. Buy one and get your LBS to set it up and all will be well.

Yes, good price.

Plus a Halfords may well be close to you whereas Ribble and Planet X may as well be on the moon for big chunks of the country. Worth considering re test rides and if you have any post purchase hassles.

FWIW my neighbour has a Planet X carbon road bike about 2 years old in red and whilst looks aren't everything it does look cheap as chips with shoddy graphics and where the cable stops are fixed to the frame the surrounding finish has gone milky. Looks a bit naff really.

Not really. They are good bikes and get good reviews. Some people buy them and they are set up fine, others not so fine. However, forums being forums more negatives are probably reported than positives thus a snowball 'all Halfords are crap' effect builds up. Although I doubt that everyone who propagates this has actually purchased there.

Works the other way too eg Canyon can't put a foot wrong and are capable of walking on water as well as feeding & watering 5000 people with a Big Mac and a can of Stella.

I am enjoying mine and glad I got it, however the set up by halfords was shocking. So you should definitely get it checked over by a lbs. They put an old chain on mine which broke after 30 miles, gears were also all over the place.

I am completely brand agnostic and have no problem with Boardmans as such. I am purely judging this bike on the package, which is not great compared to alternatives. Ultimately, the choice is yours, and if you are uncomfortable shopping on line, Halfords may well be a worthwhile alternative for you.

If you are happy with the Boardman buy it it looks a decent bike, what Vamp & I were pointing out was that for about the same price you can get bike's with better compoments, just make sure Halfords build it right.
