As the title really, I've had the team carbon for 4 months & have done 50 miles on it, I don't like commuting on it due to the lack of clearance for mud guards & am just generally scared of leaving it at work.

I'm looking at getting a cx team, mainly picked that to get the best of both worlds, it's more versatile yet still having drops.

Selling the team carbon will help financially for the up & coming wedding & as the cx will be on cycle to work scheme it won't be costing me a huge amount (have bonus vouchers also, so payments reduce to £20 a month)

What're your thoughts?

I got a Team Carbon on our first C2W scheme, and got the CX on the next. Needless to say I kept them both! You have to question whether the riding you do requires you to have them both though, especially with a wedding to pay for.

The CX is undoubtedly a better all-rounder. Commuting is its bread and butter but it will also be comfortable for long rides and tours. It's a typical workhorse.
It's a lot heavier than the carbon though and is definitely not as nice a ride, the Apex gearing doesn't shift as smoothly but it's still a great bike... which version of the TC do you have? The original with SRAM Rival or the new version with Shimano 105?

Admittedly I don't use my carbon bike from about October to April, but I make sure I get good use out of it when the weather is good. I'm now in a cycling club riding big miles at the weekends as well as commuting daily, so I can justify two bikes.

I guess you have to question why you've done so few miles on yours. Was it just because it was the winter or do you not have a need for a full carbon racer?

Mine is the 2010 version with rival, I don't intend to keep both, if I get a cx the tc will be sold. Most of my miles last year (on a road comp with apex) was commuting with a few longer rides at the weekend.
I think the few miles this year is due to crap weather & the lack of guards on the tc....plus not wanting to use it in the rain.

It's a horrible but easy decision really.
If it were me, and I could only keep one, realistically it would have to be the CX because it's just far more versatile. It's also a very popular bike on this forum site, there's quite a few of us on here.
I'd hate to have to give up the carbon because it's a lovely bike and incredible value for money, but if you're not getting the use out of it, what's the point in it sitting in the garage gathering dust?

After a trawl around I have found one on display, after having a quick.ride I think it's made my mind up. Get a cx team on c2w & sell the team carbon.

CX bikes are perfect for commuting, I've done over 3000 miles in the last 12 months just by cycling to work.

Also, having been hit twice by cars (not too badly) there's no way I'd ride a carbon bike to work.

I have also been knocked off on the way home from work, luckily on my old boardman which got stolen. I guess that's another reason I don't use it for work.

In between here and there
I bought a CX for the winter and longed to be on my best bike from Oct -> Feb. I bought the Carbon back to commuting duties and I am now considering selling the CX. 99% of my riding is commuting and I want to enjoy it. I have got really wet this week which made me decide I don't really care about the wet and would rather enjoy my ride more.

I have a CX Team and it's been my roadie/commuter for the last year. I'll be getting my first proper road bike soon, at which point I'll still be keeping the CX as my 'wet weather' bike.

It can easily be the jack of all trades for you, and if you're adamant to only have one bike I think it's a good choice.
