Booooooooo Hoooooooooo, my bike is bust. Only a few months old and the gear mechanism has gone. So had to cycle home in low gears with MTBs overtaking me! do you know how humiliating that is lol.

Big problem is, is that i have the triathlon at weekend, where i bought bike from they dont have the part. So going to have to pray i can get it elsewhere and have it fixed before Friday. One annoying thing is that the shop kept hold of the screw which held the cable in place by the pedals, so I cant even fix it to the high gears. NIGHTMARE (apparently it happens a lot to this make of bike)

it sounds like something easy for another shop to fix?

the LBS in question sounds very slow, my local one gets stuff in same day most times, should they not have a part already

got the old MTB downstairs, but no way i can ride that again, used it at last years triathlon, but nooooooooooooooooooo.

Get this, no where in london has the shimano 105, rang everywhere, so having to pay a fortune for them and to have them sent from SCOTLAND overnight. cussing and swearing big time. Only need one and they come in a pair, hopefully flog one on ebay later

You can set the front derailleur to the high gears - use the stops to hold it over the outer ring. Unless it's a hilly course you won't need the inner ring for the triathlon.

it is hilly in places, its down at Blenheim. OK news update so far is because they are under warrenty, i will get them from the shop and can then flog them on ebay etc, and get my money back. Its a shame you have to buy them in pairs and not each. It is a design flaw in them apparetnly. They are designed for 2 and 3 cogs, so they can be flipped over too far sometimes and bust. I have ordered them overnight delivery to shop, so have my fingers crossed. Bike is in shop now, just waiting. PANIC lol. I did find i needed the inner ring at Richmond, next time i go down there, will def take some energy drinks as its hard work, but very enjoyable. Maybe Brighton next?!

cheers

Interestingly I had FD levers go on my new bike, Shimano 105 too, the wholesaler "lost" the levers returned under guarantee, still waiting 3 weeks later for the recorded delivery paperwork to be presented and approved so I can get it repaired under warranty! No races in the offing.... mercifully.

there you go, its a recognised diesign flaw and from what i can tell from speaking from shops on the phone this morning, and LBS where i took said bike; nearly all, if not all of them bust. They are just not too good B)( Hope you get your "lost" ones back, sounds pretty bad deal, its not Hafords is it ;o)

hang on a minute Jake exactly what part is broken ??? if it is your STi gear shifter for the front mech then any lever will work. use a 8 speed 9 speed campag anything will shift your front mech because it isn't indexed.
Why not just use a lever off another bike for now to get through the tri then shop around for a used 105 or a better price

ahh see its under warrantee and being done by an lbs. If you are going to sell one of the right levers I'd appreciate first dibs please.

i think no one has one as they are all bust and people want the replacment. Everyone is waiting on a new batch.

Not sure, its something inside the mechanisium, some pin or something. Its the left hand one. Its all ordered and fingers crossed, it will come in time.

hehe, will see as will try and sell them as a pair and make as much back on them as i can, but iwll prob end up taking a hit of £20-50 i guess.

Hmmm - I'd been wondering whether it was worth paying the extra £100 to go for Ultegra over 105 when speccing up my new bike. Sounds like I'd better go Ultegra, if only for the peace of mind. B)

i would say yes, although dont know if the ultegra suffers from the same if not other problems. Got to say i am dissapointed in this happening, the only bad incident with this amazing bike - so far lol
