Hmmm - I'd been wondering whether it was worth paying the extra £100 to go for Ultegra over 105 when speccing up my new bike. Sounds like I'd better go Ultegra, if only for the peace of mind.

as far as I can see some of the 105 and ultegra are the same components with different logos colour or finishes. I'd want to know the STi internals were better than 105 before upgrading

It would appear that the Ultegra shifters are available in either double or triple format, but the 105 shifters are dual-purpose (double/triple in one unit). Therefore, it would seem that the Ultegra shifters are designed in such a way that they cannot have the same problem as Jake's 105s, which is partly due to the 105s being "two shifters in one", so to speak.

Ultegra it is, then. Saves me an upgrade in the future, I suppose...

They are just not too good ( Hope you get your "lost" ones back, sounds pretty bad deal, its not Hafords is it ;o)

It's a relatively new problem, only with the new 105 left hand shifters. The older ones are absoultely fine, very good actually. Not sure what the problem is exactly but obviously a tweak they made in design / assembly that wans't a good idea!
