Grand-daughter has just bought an elephant bike. She's living away from home and it's her only transport. She's a sensible and practical girl, but a little bit clueless (so far) about bikes. Can anyone recommend a book to send her to help with basic maintenance and simple repairs? I used to recommend Richard's Bicycle Book for this purpose (as well as being great pro-cycling propaganda) but it is out of print and the info nearly 40 years out of date. The elephant bikes are fairly simple, three-speed affairs, so she won't need to know about indexed gears and the best brifters, but basic stuff like punctures, cables and chains would be useful.

Any recommendations?

Park tools big blue book of bike repairs is excellent in 4th edition, it really explains everything very well for novice & experienced diy'ers, it's about £20 you could get that one as well, also point her to their you tube videos
