Have you read the A Song of Fire and Ice books (what the TV series the Games of Thrones is based on)?
A very good series of books for those who like to know exactly what every character is wearing, and exactly what they had for dinner.

I like Åsa Larsson's Rebecka Martinsson series of books which a Swedish friend of mine introduced me to.
Also Arnaldur Indridason Reykjavik Murder Mysteries are proving interesting and Andrea K Höst's Touchstone series was an excellent read (the first book is a little slow to start but once it does get going is really good - Kindle price is now back up to £0.70!).
Another series I have found to be excellent is Jan Costin Wagner's books.
