I received Martin Bobbitt's book on the Citroen 2CV today. Over the years I have tended to read a lot of such books. In the past year or so I've read Eric Dymock's book on Rover, a book on the history of Tatra and Hans Ledwinka and also a book on the development and history of the Zetor tractors (Czech tractor manufacturer).

I have interests in both history and engineering and do enjoy reading about the people who designed these things and the circumstances into which they were developed. I keep meaning to find a biography of Henry Ford.

Does anyone else read books like this and anyone got any particular recommendations?

I only have Vespa books no car ones, but I'd buy one, a Tatra is a beautiful thing. Was it this book?

Yes that's the book.

In a dream world, if I were to have a lot more money and time, I'd like to do a cycle tour across Europe to Prague and try and find a Tatra to buy and bring home with me. :becool:

Hope you with then. They look like nothing else, even the later ones were well cool.

Vehicle Dependant Expedition Guide

THE book for anyone, travelling anywhere in a motorised vehicle

Such a depth of knowledge, even such esoteria as what trousers to wear in hot climates

Mine is a first edition, that still fetches silly money!!
(mine's not sealed though)

That book in a sealed package (book's never been opened or read) is as daft as a touring bike that's never been ridden.

Oh, the Range Rover CSK :wub::wub::wub:

The 'Sports' grandad
I'd give my left nut for a CSK, and another for a P6 2000TC.

With anaesthetic, or not?

Will a 3500 do

Or a P5b?

They also generally have a couple of CSK's for sale, but sadly not at the moment

Too much old Rover temptation here.....
My guvnor at work when I was a teenager had a 3.5 manual Rover P6 and he often used to give me a lift if he spotted me walking down the road. It went like shoot off a shovel, and it held the road too - but he had to have the ignition timing just right, otherwise it pinked like a bastard even on 4 star, whereas my old petrol Series 2 will run on anything remotely combustible. More impressive car than the SD1 3500. maybe because it was lighter? The P6 was certainly a better looker.
