After much scientific 'research' over the last few months I think I can solidly conclude, with a tear in my eye, that I have developed some sort of alcohol allergy. Cue wailing and gnashing of teeth.

My general tolerance is still strong, but invariably after a post-ride pint or a drink with dinner I wake up at 2 AM with swollen sinuses, sneezing and honking away till sunrise. It's playing havoc with my sleep schedule and the cat doesn't know what to think.

Anyone else experienced this? Did it come on suddenly, as mine seems to have done? Any miraculous recoveries?

Could it be that pollen counts are at an all-time high at the moment?

Not the same, but similar. A friend of mine has had some random and rather scary face swelling incidents in the last year or two. No other medical implications other than the swelling of lips and face which settles down within 24 hrs. Medical investigation has drawn a blank and other than the coincidental finding that it happens after drinking alcohol (he is not a big drinker at all) there is no idea why it is happening. He hasn't been drinking for over 6 months and I am not sure if it has occurred during this period but he is now drinking occasionally and hasn't had a repeat so far.

My opinion that is that it isn't the alcohol but something associated with it. Maybe a food type he often eats when having a drink, or possibly a glass cleaner being used by an establishment he eats/dinks at? Whatever it is/was, so far it seems to have gone as suddenly as it started. Hopefully it will pass for you too.

I realised that alcohol was one of the triggers for severe headaches/migraine. Only took a few sips to start them. Have been almost teatotal for last 24 yrs, but can survive the occasional drink now.

I actually already take a daily antihistamine, as hayfever has always been an issue for me, so on any given day I've got that swirling around in my system as a matter of course!

There are really no other symptoms. I am not drinking enough to get a hangover, and I never have a headache or that raspy throat the next day... but my eyes and nose are streaming still as I write this. It's a huge bummer guys, I love a good beer
