Bored facts that you have found out while in lock down

They wouldn't risk it getting stuck these days.

According to Wikipedia the canal has little economic importance these days as it is far too small for modern commercial shipping.

It would still cost a fortune to get the ship freed and repaired, plus the compensation the compensation they'd have to pay to passengers.

Water pressure at the sides keeps the ship away from the walls.

On reflection, I'm not so sure. I reckon it's got more to do with the Bernoulli Principle.... a thin laminar flow of fluid exerting a suction force towards each side of the Corinth Canal. However, when that laminar flow is interrupted by a discontinuity on one side of the canal, the ship will veer wildly to the other side.....like an F1 race car losing downforce on a bend at 150mph. Hat's off to the Captain.

Anyway, that is my theory.

If you are sat there bored and decide to pick your nose then scratch your bum it is important not to get confused.

I'll admit, I kind-of knew this before lock-down, but didn't really appreciate it fully till now.

A not entirely unrelated fact is that shaving in cold water is not pleasant.

I always shave with cold water.
