Hence surprised tonight to login and see that I had hired a bike between 17:00 & 17.23 tonight in Westminster. Also a mystery list of charges and possible chargebacks.

Rang TfL. Ended up in the 'overflow centre' because they are too busy to take my call. They can't access my account. In fact they can't do anything except offer a callback within 24 hours.

So it looks like someone can take a bike on my account and if they don't return it I stand to lose £300 and I can do nothing about it.

Unhappy Bunny!

This is a well known issue that TFL and Serco have been having.
If you go into your activity log then does it still show them? as past experience and information from other users have suggest that in that section it displays the true data.

They just love that pink Hammerite look in Romania.

I logged in an hour later and all the mystery stuff and hire had disappeared. Hmmmm as an IT person I'm seeing leakage from one account record to another. That's usually a megafail that should never get passed system testing.

It is going to get interesting when somebody does nick a bike and the denies it - or has a bike nicked hey didn't hire. Looks like the integrity of the system is so questionable that enforcement is resting on the credibility of their database. I can't see any county court being happy to back TfL at this rate ...

All the signs of an over rushed implementation ... I'm guessing nobody had the balls to tell Boris to go away until the system was ready.

As an IT system tester, please advise your details and I'll see if I can acquire a bike in your name.

PS
What is the going rate for Boris's bikes in Brick Lane this week ?

Not sure this is entirely fair - there have certainly been significant system problems and frankly a couple of design disasters which are pretty crappy - however any fule kno that projects like this don't get delayed for what are, in fact, pretty minor problems - you *may* risk getting over charged, but you'll dispute it and all the signs are that TFL are being very understanding about these things.

Over all the system has been an astounding success - and as an IT professional myself it certainly compares incredibly favourably with large public sector systems implementations to say the least...

The big question here, is who would actually want a boris bike. I love the scheme and use it for short hops all the time. But hell I wouldn't want to drag one of those beasts more than 30 mins in any direction.

I dragged an electric bike half way around Thailand..and god was that heavy or what?

Also some shopping bike round tokyo..was that low geared or what?

SO I think I could handle a boris bike.

You will soon get frustrated with the boris bike. You spin out in gear 2, so change to gear 3 and DAMN it's like a freaking elephant is attached to the bike!

That certainly mirrors my experience - did they not think about suitable gearing ratios before ordering the bikes?
