Can some just clarify the charges
If I don't become a member I pay £1 to take a bike out and then nothing for the first 30 minutes
If I join then I pay £45 for a year (or £5 for a week) and then don't pay the £1, but pay the same usage cost.

I need to get from Cheapside to Kings Cross as quickly as possible in the middle of the day next week and a BB looks the best option.

Another option is to join with 24-hour membership (costs £1) and set your membership to auto-renew.

I don't know if it's just me, but the first and only time I used one it took a while to figure out the system!

I assume you've not used one before, and it sounds like speed is of the essence, so forgive me if you know all this:

1. You pay the £1 at the machine and get a receipt.
2. You have to use the machine again to get an access code, made up of 1's, 2's and 3's (e.g. 21332)
3. Pop this code into any bike's stand. There are 1, 2 and 3 buttons on the left hand side.
4. To remove the bike it helps to lift the back wheel a bit, apparently. Mine wouldn't budge otherwise.
5. Just pop the bike back into any rack at the end and wait for the light to change. No need to use the machine again.

Ok the scheme cost 500,000,000 to implement and they need to make the money back.
