A recent post on his twitter page;
"Why do people on cycling forums never go under their real name? it's always Cock46 or Dickpenis75? funny ain't it?"
:ohmy:

For me - it's just that I don't do the whole Facebook type thing, so don't publicise myself online unless I want to. Whilst discussions on cycling arn't really anything to worry about - online privacy should be a habit to a certain extent. Each to their own though.

It is funny, and a good observation (don't know who he is though :smile:) - I think it applies to any forum though, but maybe he's wrong and those are real names :smile:

He's a british cyclist, came 4th in this years Tour de France, tipped to do even better next year!

THis is a personal choice, but I simply do not want my details searchable on the internet.

Choose a member of this forum and do a search... you can find out an awful lot about someone.

Combine that with the facility to access your clipboard whilst you are online (Have you copied and pasted your address or credit card details), or do you really want the hostile trolls with your home details?

I chose one member of this forum and now have his real name, profile details on SKy user, London Fixed Gear Forum, amongst others, I know where they work and also Blogger. I have a photograph and know roughly where he lives from some routes on Bikely.

To me it is a simple precaution - If I pm I use my personal details, and when I meet other forummers I also tend to use my real name.

PS I am not a stalker, I just wanted to show what could be done.

At least I don't walk round public places with BO. I saw him at that Cycle Show thing in Earls Court a few years back and his pits needed a good scrubbing!

Oblique reference to the post above about changing my profile..........

It is though another example of just how much you give away when you are interacting with the internet.
