it's the same door but when you originally chose it, it was 1 out of 3 possibilities. you are now choosing the alternative door for the first time and as it's 1 out of only 2 doors, the odds are better for you.

It's not as simple as that. Like I said, it depends on your definitions.

May also be down to how you ask the question. I asked -

"Name the states of the USA that are the furthest north south east and west."

Which I hope pinned it down. Furthest East being the tricky one. Part of Alaska being to the right of Japan on the map it is to the east. So rater like the north pole being the furthest north, the 180degree line is the furthest east or west you can go.

If you head east you end up to the west of where you started!!
