What do you mean you tried? Is the cable frayed and you can't get it through the hole?

I have seen cheaper, or even not so cheap models, without a hole in the bolt for the cable. The cable is held under a washer which is sometimes grooved . This should work in your case if you can’t thread the cable through the hole, that or get a new bolt.

If it doesn't have a hole in the shank of the anchor bolt, then putting the text 'cycle brake anchor bolt' into the e-bay search box, will result in many cheap options which do have a hole.

perhaps if you could explain , WHY the cable doesn't go in, then more help will be offered , simply stating , it doesnt go in, doesn't help
