I have an old specialised sirus and I think it is time to renew all the cables . is there a difference between the brake cables and the derailleur cables . I know that the outers are different for the derailleurs but I am hoping that these should be ok .

the cables I have seen that mention any sizes seem to be 1.6mm .

the ends of my brake cable are universal ,will the ends of my gears be the same ?

Brake cables are thicker than gear cables because of the extra stress on them.

If not replacing the gear cable outers, I would squirt some WD40 or similar down them before replacing the cables. Careful of ‘blow back’, though.
