Brake feel/smoothness

The braking between the two brakes feels different from one another.

The left brake moves more smoothly, but the lever itself feels loose to touch - I imagine the cable/barrel adjustere will help in that respect The lever also travels further compared to the left brake lever. The right brake feels slightly jarring when squezzing the brake lever, it doesn't move as smoohtly, especially compared ot the right brake lever.

What could be the cause and ultimately remedy these problems. Would a visit to my LBS be a quick solution?

Thanks.

Front brake = short cable run = feels sharper
Back brake = long cable run = feels spongier

Lever travel can be adjusted so that the pull is similar.

In a nutshell. As long as the brakes stop you, that's all that matters.

Assuming we're talking cables not hydraulics...
There will be a difference - the back brake has a longer and more wiggly cable run.
Do the brakes work OK?

Yes, cable disc brakes. Should have mentioned that in the original post.

The brakes seem to work fine, just the disparity in feel/smoothness that has caught me off guard. Didnt' realise there would be a difference, but thinking about it now, the different cable length would affect the feel I guess.

I'm a newb at this, can you tell.

Loch side.
The back one will much better, but not the same as, the front one if you change the cable. Rear brake cables want regular changing for maximum user satisfaction.
