so I have a cantilever or rim brakes and they squeal as I use them but they only do it on the front. is there any way to stop them from making these noises

Assuming that there is no contamination on the rim brake surface and no contamination on the brake shoes, then most likely cause is that the brake shoes need to be adjusted so that the leading edge of the brake shoe hits the rim first.

They do toe in naturally as they wear, and a few wet rides will accelerate the process.

It can also help to buff the braking surface of the pads up with a bit of emery paper. And make sure you rims are nice and clean
