How to I pull the brake cable through to allow me some more length? When I pull the brake lever, it hits off the handlebar: i need some more give in it (I hope you know what I mean!). I've got a BMC road bike.

Brake cables are adjusted at the caliper, that's assuming you have calipers and not discs.

I haven't watched this TBH but hopefully it will help.

Squeeze both brake blocks together and hold, then undo the clamp on the quick release, then pull the cable through a little, and tighten up. You've also got an adjuster nob where the cable connects with the calliper.
