Hi there. I'm going to change the tyres on my bike. How do I loosen and separate the brake blocks from the wheel so I can get the wheel out. There is usually a lever but not on this bike

You’ll have to release the cable by undoing the clamping hex nut.

A very few levers - some Tektro - have a button that allows the lever to flip right out and release the cable tension. I can't see what levers you have, but worth a 2 second look before reaching for the hammer.

I know but I need to have clearance for when I put air in the new tyres before putting them back on the bike!

Why would you do that, I never pump tyres up before putting the wheel back on the bike, other than a tiny bit to shape the tube before fitting if a new one

What one is the clamping hex nut?

no 1 below is the clamping bolt, this will release the cable

you may get enough slack by using the barrel adjuster (no 2 out of shot) you can twist to slacken off the brakes and then retighten once the wheel is back in.

Cylcops above is wrong - that's not the clamping bolt.

I’m sure my Campagnolo brifters have a button to slacken the cable off, might be dreaming and thinking of my old Weinmann levers lol.

In my experience it is necessary to both deflate the tyre and unhook the cantilever or v brakes to remove the wheel. Most of the time there is no air in the tyre when I need to remove the wheel.
